Rationale


The course explores current problems and dilemmas to enable students to foster a critical awareness of both substantive and procedural aspects of human rights protection. 

This course aims to introduce students to the historical development of international human rights protection and to the procedural and institutional framework of international human rights protection.


Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:

(i)    Describe the enforcement mechanisms employed to protect international human rights law.
(ii)   Analyse the scope of and limits to a selective range of substantive human rights.
(iii)  Discuss the interplay between politics and human rights in the international context.
