Rationale


Strategic management is crucial for navigating the complex and dynamic healthcare landscape. This course equips students with the knowledge and skills to analyse healthcare environments, formulate effective strategies, and ensure the financial viability and competitiveness of healthcare organisations. By understanding strategic planning, marketing, and financial management principles, graduates can contribute to improved healthcare service delivery and patient outcomes.

This course aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of strategic management in healthcare. Students will gain the ability to analyse the healthcare environment and identify strategic challenges and opportunities. Additionally, it aims to enable them to apply strategic planning frameworks tailored to healthcare organisations as well as to develop and evaluate effective marketing strategies aimed at promoting healthcare services.

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Analyse health data using business research methods to evaluate policy decisions.
(ii)   Apply operational research techniques to improve health service management.
(iii)  Assess quantitative methods for evaluating health services.
(iv)  Utilise linear programming concepts for resource allocation in healthcare.
(v)   Develop and implement assessment tools for health service effectiveness.
