Rationale


The ever-increasing demand for efficient and effective healthcare delivery necessitates a focus on quality improvement. Understanding and implementing quality practices is crucial for healthcare professionals to optimise patient care, reduce errors, and ensure efficient resource utilisation. This course equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to a culture of quality within healthcare organisations.

This course aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of quality concepts, principles, and tools applicable to healthcare settings. Through exploration of real-world scenarios, students will gain proficiency in identifying quality issues, implementing quality improvement initiatives, and evaluating their effectiveness.

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Apply quality improvement tools (e.g., SWOT analysis, process mapping) to identify strengths and weaknesses in healthcare organisations.
(ii)   Evaluate the effectiveness of quality criteria and indicators in assessing organisational design, processes, and performance against internal and international standards.
(iii)  Analyse common barriers faced by healthcare organisations in implementing continuous quality improvement initiatives.
