Background and Rationale
The main objectives of the course are to:
• introduce students to a variety of texts by women authors
• develop the students’ capacity for analysis, synthesis and interpretation
• foster critical reasoning in reading and writing about exemplary literary texts
• develop research skills appropriate to the field demonstrated in coherent assignments and projects
Learning Outcomes
After completion of the course students are expected to be able to:
• analyse various literary texts in fiction and non-fiction by women writers
• independently analyse literature in English paying special attention to the role of gender
• orally transmit an understanding of these texts in English
• use a variety of critical approaches, including a feminist one, in reading and writing about literature
• formulate interpretations of literary texts in coherent research papers which reflect genre, thematic and cultural diversity in relation to gender
