This module introduces students to the concepts and key dimensions associated with the public health approach. Key values such as prevention, advocacy, multi-sectoral working and equity are explored and contextualized to local application. The module reviews historical as well as contemporary public health approaches, policies & strategies. Understanding the development of policy and strategies and the role of public health evidence and advocacy in this process is an important element of the programme. There is a particular focus on examining health inequalities and measures to reduce them. The aim is to identify local, national and international strategic responses to both improving health and reducing health inequalities.
