Module Description

The course provides students with a solid understanding of concepts in relation to the function of financial markets, the flow funds, levels of interest rates and interest rates differentials. It analyses the institutional framework through the examination of the theoretical background to the structure and performance of the financial system, and the role, aims and decision making process of financial intermediaries involved in financial markets’ operations.

Module Aim

The course aims at equipping students with knowledge and skills in international integration of financial markets and institutions.

Module Learning Outcomes

After completing the course students should be able to:

  1. Identify the forces driving change within the financial system.
  2. Discuss the role and operation of the major groups of financial institutions within the financial system.
  3. Evaluate the trends in the ongoing development of the major groups of financial institutions within the financial system.
  4. Assess the role of various financial markets in the delivery of financial services and products to personal, business and public sector clients.
  5. Analyze the main characteristics of the regulatory framework within which financial institutions and markets operate.
