Module Description

The module prepares students for event management, namely the application of project management to the creation and development of large-scale events such as festivals, conferences, ceremonies, weddings, formal parties, concerts, or conventions. It involves studying the brand, identifying its target audience, devising the event concept, coordinating the technical aspects and actually launching the event. The module will introduce students to the design of research activity required to better understand the clients and manage various types of events and to locate suitable sites, arrange quality food, décor and entertainment, plan transportation to and from the event and send invitations to guests.

Module Aim

The module aims at equipping students with knowledge and skills that will assist them to plan, coordinate, manage and conduct activities related to various types of events.

Module Learning Outcomes

After completing the module students should be able to:

  1. Conduct a research activity in order to better understand the client and the event;
  2. Create a design theme that will complement the event under consideration;
  3. Investigate options available for a either a pre-determined site or one that has yet to be decided; organize the appropriate catering, décor and entertainment;
  4. Plan the necessary transport arrangements to and from the event;
  5. Send invitations to guests;
  6. Arrange any necessary guest accommodation;
  7. Coordinate the activities of the human resources involved in the event
  8. Effectively supervise the event on the day;
  9. Conduct an evaluation of the event in order to highlight weaknesses for future improvement.
