Summary of module for applicants:
Conduct a practical project of a Master level quality related to the scope of the selected MSc programme and develop skills appropriate for a senior computing professional. Students will consider the ethical, legal, social, and professional issues, and the dissertation will require appropriate research, analysis, design, implementation, quality assurance, evaluation and project management. Students will reflect on the success of the strategies that they employed to further develop their reflective skills, self-awareness, ‘life style’ and self-care approaches and where necessary improve their approaches.

- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of one chosen and highly specific area within the domain of their programme of study and communicate this knowledge through both a written report and an oral assessment deadline (EID, CID, SID, PID).
- Demonstrate knowledge of research methods appropriate for Masters level research and to communicate this knowledge through both a written report and an oral assessment (EID, CID, SID, PID).
Thinking Skills
- Use analytic skills in assessing the works of others to assimilate these iteratively into an integrated framework of understanding (COI).
- Critically reflect on the ethical, legal, and social considerations of a chosen project topic (IC).
Subject-based practical skills
- Write a dissertation report, based on a substantial practical piece of work.
- Construct a literature review and analyse the problem domain to which the project relates. Gather relevant information and data for the purposes of research, and construct and implement a realistic research timetable.
- Specify, design and implement a solution to a computer science related problem (DP).
Skills for life and work (general skills)
- Manage and deliver the production of a complete piece of work according to the submitted plan, whilst liaising with a supervisor to meet a specific deadline (EID, CID, SID).
