RATIONALE
This module examines the concepts and principles of criminal law. It covers the general principles of criminal law and the substantive law concerning a range of offences. This subject attracts considerable academic discussion and analysis, and this module engages with both classic and emerging debates in criminal law. The module integrates theory and application. Students will be equipped to interpret and apply cases and statutes to legal problems and engage critically with academic legal discourse. This module also facilitates the consolidation of academic skills developed in the Legal Method & Advocacy module. This includes legal research, drafting responses to problem questions and enhancing discursive essay writing skills.

AIMS
Through the completion of this module students will:
●    Examine and apply the concepts and principles of criminal law across a range of offences. 
●    Analyse theoretical perspectives on criminal law.
●    Evaluate the impact of recent reforms and developments in criminal law.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:
1.    Understand the basic fatal and non-fatal offences
2.    Discuss competing interpretations of the concepts and principles of criminal law across a range of offences. 
3.    Identify and apply the key elements of criminal offences and relevant defences to solve legal problems 
4.    Evaluate the application of the law concerning participants in crime and imposition of accessorial liability
