RATIONALE
This module engages tort law under common law. Students will examine the development and function of tort law in society. The module places considerable emphasis on the current applications of legal principles, policy and academic discourses in this branch of the law of obligations. Very complex sets of social relationships are governed by legal concepts of duty, harm and compensation. Students will be able to develop critical insights into the various bases of tortious liability and debates that have been generated in judicial and academic literature. Students will be able to engage critically with academic legal discourses on major debates and issues in tort law. Students will also develop their legal research skills from a range of materials and resources and their capacity to apply legal principles to practical situations.

AIMS
This module aims to:
●    Examine the legal principles, concepts and policy considerations in tort law.
●    Analyse a range of theoretical perspectives in tort law and associated aspects in the broader field of the law of obligations. 
●    Evaluate and apply substantive legal principles in tort law to factual situations.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the module students will be able to:
1.    Critically discuss the concepts and principles of tort law.
2.    Analyse theoretical perspectives in tort law.
3.    Examine and apply substantive legal principles in tort law to factual situations to solve legal problems.
