Description:

RATIONALE 

This module provides an overview of the role of HR professionals in contemporary organisations and the skills required to be successful in this role.  The module will explore the historical evolution of the people management profession in brief and review the need for contemporary organisations to take a more proactive standpoint to people management functions and practices. These will be approached by focusing on elements of the employee lifecycle from start to finish including resourcing, talent development, succession planning and the role understanding employment law plays in employee engagement activities. Successful completion of this module will equip graduates with the useful subject knowledge to understand and apply good practice in resourcing, managing and developing talent in a range of organisational contexts.

Through the completion of this module students will: 

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:    

  1. Evaluate the role and relevance of effective people management practices in a range of organisational contexts. 
  2. Analyse theoretical approaches to the effective management of the employee lifecycle and develop the skills needed to be effective people manager and/or HR professional 
  3. Reflect on the range of concepts and issues that are associated with resourcing, managing, developing and retaining talent in the workplace, and the interrelationships between these factors 
  4. Develop the skills and understanding needed to address contemporary operational issues in the workplace
