Description:

The module enhances students’ understanding of psychology applied to working environments. The module teaches students to discuss key terms, concepts, and models of psychology applied to working environments, and critically evaluate a range of theoretical frameworks that inform the application of psychology in the workplace. Furthermore, this module will empower students with the ability to critically evaluate the process of psychological assessment, analyse the potential effects of social, technological and environmental changes on individuals in the workplace and how psychologists may respond to them. Students will be taught how to use appropriate psychological empirical evidence to make practical and reasoned decisions, how to use psychological knowledge and research evidence to solve problems related to working environments and to present reasoned, critical and evidence-based arguments in written form. 

Module Aim


The aim of this module is for students to understand the application of psychological principles in workplace settings, focusing on motivation, employee well-being, psychological assessment, and organisational dynamics. Students will explore key theoretical frameworks that underpin human behaviour at work, including job design, recruitment, performance assessment, and workplace adaptation to technological and environmental changes.


Module Learning Outcomes


Upon completion of this module, the student should be able to:
1.    Understand key psychological concepts and models relevant to workplace behaviour.
2.    Evaluate a range of theoretical frameworks that inform the application of psychology in the workplace and the concept of remote and hybrid working.
3.    Critically assess psychological assessment methods used in recruitment, selection, and performance evaluation.
4.    Analyse the impact of social, technological, environmental and organisational changes on workplace dynamics.
5.    Examine the potential impact of socio-political and power dynamics on individuals in the workplace.
6.    Apply theories of Psychology and research to address real-world workplace challenges including stress management and employee engagement.
