Rationale
Teaching, learning and assessment methods provides the prospective teacher with different aspects of teaching and assessment methods that enhance learning. The current technological age provides an opportunity for a teacher to interact with behaviours methods of teaching and assessment to help the student. Creativity is crucial within the learning process in order to make learning as interesting as possible. The aim of the course, therefore, is to provide the prospective teacher with skills and knowledge into a variety of teaching, learning and assessment methods crucial to the students’ learning process. Students will be introduced to different learning styles, for example visual or writing learning style and to the eight types of effective teaching strategies. The choice of teaching strategies to be used depends largely on the information or skill that is being taught and it may also be influenced by the learning style, skills and enthusiasm of the teacher. This course also describes motivation and the factors affecting it. Assessing learning is important to any teaching process hence the inclusion of different assessment methods that should help the teacher evaluate if learning has taken place are examined throughout the course. Innovative teaching, learning and assessment methods will be examined in this course to enable students to be aware of the impact that the advancement of technology has on education, and the way technology can facilitate, and sometimes even hinder, the educational process.

At the end of the course students will be expected to:
i. Explain how learning occurs in different types of learners.
ii. Discuss Bloom’s Taxonomy and its relevance in teaching, learning and assessment
iii. Examine the theory of multiple intelligences.
iv. Describe the different teaching strategies.
v. Discuss the importance of motivation explaining its effect on behaviour and learning.
vi. Compare and contrast formative and summative assessment.
vii. Explain the different approaches and problems associated with use of different teaching mediums.
viii. Describe the concept of Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and its different approaches.
ix. Explore the different approaches to learning and their different concepts.
