Description:

Rationale
Religious Education makes a distinctive contribution to the school curriculum by developing pupils' knowledge and understanding of religion, religious beliefs, practices, language and traditions and their influence on individuals, communities, societies and cultures. This course is important as it helps develop the knowledge of children and their understanding of religion, society and education. This in turn helps the students to mature personally and socially, refine their psychological judgements and decisions on issues relating to religion, moral and social hence, preparing them for life in a secular society. The course will enable potential teachers to reflect upon their experiences and the mysteries of life and the contribution of religious and spiritual dimensions. This underpins the promotion of students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepares students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of the present and the future. A look at different cultures and their traditional belief system is equally undertaken here to provide a connection with religions.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:


i.    Demonstrate knowledge and understanding on a range of religion, beliefs in society
ii.   Assess the role of religion through the long-standing experiences of societies and cultures.
iii.  Gain and deploy the skills needed to demonstrate understanding, interpretation and evaluation of text, sources of wisdom and authority and other evidence available
iv.   Articulate clearly their personal beliefs, ideas, values and experiences while respecting the right to differ with others.
v.    Analyse theoretical and ideological approaches to religion and religion its sociological structures
vi.   Investigate mutual relations between religion and society
vii.  Explain the psychological dimension of purely spiritual questions that are relevant.
viii.  Analyse sociological and cultural data of events and assets
ix.   Make ethical decisions using reflection, discernment, critical thinking and judgement.
x.    Discuss the position and the relationship of religion with culture, culture and heritage society.
xi.   Explain the influence of religion on the cultural life of the worldly life.
xii.   Explain the diversity in religions.
