Description:

Rationale
The aim of teaching this course as an educational approach to the teaching and learning of STEAM and Robotics is a deliberate intention to be in tandem with the current technological skills which all teachers should have. As a tool, robotics is believed to be an exciting and motivating means of developing STEAM skills in a classroom.  As a modern form of interdisciplinary education, today’s education systems demand for continuous learning and improvement of one’s skills set, knowledge and abilities. Previously known as STEM, the inclusion of Arts has included the importance of language arts, dance, drama, music, visual arts, design and new media. Technology has become a way of life. STEAM and Robotics are technological means through which learning can be delivered. Many researchers and teachers agree that the inclusion of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in early education provides a strong motivation and a great improvement in learning speed. Including STEAM and Robotics in the curriculum of preschool student’s is crucial as that would capture them in developing curiosity and passion in the area.  Most curricula in primary schools include a number of concepts that cover science and math, but less effort is applied in teaching problem solving, computer science, technology and robotics which is hopped this course will provide.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:

i.    Analyse the significance of STEAM subjects.
ii.   Explain the teaching of Robotics through STEAM.
iii.   Explain how a large problem can be solved by breaking it up into smaller pieces which can be solved more easily.
iv.   Explain how to automate repetitive tasks, transform perceptions into actions and come up with ways to make smart decisions, even if in unknown situations.
v.    Analyse the possibilities and impossibilities of programming and acquiring insight into the power of logic.
vi.   Use automates repetitive tasks.
vii.   Come up with ways to make smart decisions, even if in unknown situations by transforming perceptions into actions.
