Rationale


This course aims to enhance students’ interpersonal, communicative – both oral and written- skills in order to confidently act and eloquently express their ideas and principles in real HRM situations in which the human interaction is an integral part. The focus of the course is mentoring and coaching, which are among the main practices that an HR professional has to efficiently perform for employee support, progress and for the overall smooth business operation. Furthermore, the course analyses the basic principles of communication that are important for coaching and mentoring in order to overcome unpleasant circumstances and facilitate ongoing learning and advancement at a professional, but also personal level. Regular coaching and mentoring either at a personal or at a professional level, increase loyalty, foster job satisfaction and individual appreciation, motivation as well as, work ethos; attributes that are valuable for one’s career growth and for the healthy function of an organisation.


Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Apply the various theories and key principles of coaching and mentoring.
(ii)   Discuss specific concepts and frameworks of facilitation, coaching and mentoring and relate their importance to leadership and management effectiveness. 
(iii)  Implement these practices within their daily interactions with employees and adopt an advisory role, based on fairness, honesty and respect for each one of the individuals.
(iv)  Formulate HR plans that promote sharing experiences and consulting between the HR department and the employees.
(v)   Interpret one’s behaviour and motives in order to provide the appropriate assistance and career advice.
(vi)  Pursue continuous knowledge and development in the areas of facilitation, coaching and mentoring.
