Rationale


The course addresses a number of themes related to contemporary issues and changes experienced in today’s employment world. Work and employment are structured and influenced by the broader context of economy and technology, which rapidly develops and grows, changing in that way the meaning and the realities of the modern workspace. The course, examines and encourages students to adopt a critical approach to these developments and the changing nature of employment, as well as the impact it has on the employee population. Therefore, students will acquire an understanding of the changing management of work and evaluate how it contributes to organisational success and growth.

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:

(i)    Examine recent developments in employment and their effects upon the organisational management and structure.
(ii)   Appropriately implement these changes in HRM strategy.
(iii)  Interpret the different theoretical debates regarding changing nature and experience of work in the modern society.
(iv)  List the main contemporary issues currently dominant in different organisational settings and assess their impact on both the employees and the general management.
(v)   Define the term “Business Readiness” and provide examples and ways to achieve it.
(vi)  Synthesise the relevant research evidence as per the changing content and management of work.
