Rationale


This course will introduce students to the legal framework for employment and the responsibilities of the various stakeholders in order to ensure a healthy and safe working environment. They will understand how government, employers and employees along with their respective representatives communicate and decide on the best course of action for providing a safe working environment both employees and external partners.

Learning outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Identify the legislative bodies that shape the legal framework for health and safety at the workplace.
(ii)   Examine the impact and responsibilities of the various stakeholders in implementing and ensuring that health and safety management systems are effective.
(iii)  Explain the importance of the social security benefits in the event of loss of work due to occupational injury.
(iv)  Apply national and international labour law conditions.
