Rationale
Managing occupational health and safety involves considering a wide range of risks and hazards that can cause harm or illness at both the physical and the psychological / mental level. In this course, students will be introduced to the psychological factors that affect workers in doing their job in a safe and healthy manner. They will gain insights on how the organisation and management of the workplace can implement processes to address and minimise the psychological and mental distress in order to ensure that the workers will have the necessary support to complete their work.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Explain how and the extent to which the workplace environment can impact of the workers’ health and their work as a result.
(ii) Identify the psychosocial risk factors that may exist in the workplace and cause disruption in the workflow and the working relationships.
(iii) Implement control measures and process that will contain and manage the effects of psychological pressure and stress and improve worker’s health.
