Rationale

Environmental health management addresses the impact of the environmental elements on worker’s health. More specifically students will study the environmental hazards that derive from human activities and adversely affect the air, water, foodstuffs and aesthetics (noise, odour, dust) quality therefore creating a harmful environment for public health. The course will explore how these hazards relate to the workplace and the organisation’s responsibility to manage these effectively in order to ensure a safe working environment. Finally, students will explore ways that will enable workers to contribute to the environmental health of their workplace.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Analyse the relationship between environmental health and occupational health and safety.
(ii)   Explain the connection between the environment and a healthy workplace.
(iii)  Identify current environmental health issues on a national and international level.
(iv)  Describe the effect of organisational activities to environmental and occupational health.
(v)   Identify how organisations can assess, prevent and manage environmental hazards that directly affect the worker’s safety and health.
(vi)  Apply the necessary practices and procedures to ensure safe working environment.
