Description:

Rationale

This course will introduce students to the important legislative, legal and policy making tools, concepts and procedures necessary in order to manage environmental health effectively. Students will be familiar with developing, enforcing, evaluating and advising on these tools in order to ensure organisational due diligence. An in-depth understanding of environmental health law and legislation is important since it adds great value to the student’s knowledge and skills.

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Describe the factors that affect environmental health policies and legislations. 
(ii)   Identify the principal features of the environmental health and legislation, including enforcement procedures.
(iii)  Explain how laws and policies for environmental health are developed.
(iv)  Apply public and environmental health legislation.
(v)   Communicate legislative requirements to the different stakeholders.
(vi)  Apply reasoning techniques in interpreting legislation and compliance requirements.
(vii) Apply environmental health theory to practice.
(viii) Apply legislative regulations to preventive and protective methodologies in the control of environmental and occupational risks.
