Rationale


This course will introduce students to the importance of training, training methods and adult learning principles in relation to occupational health and safety. Students will become familiar with the processes that can be used to determine the training needs of individuals and teams as part of the organisational strategy for improvement.  They will gain a thorough understanding of training planning and training delivery methods in order to achieve maximum understanding and knowledge transference. Finally, students will understand the importance of training evaluation in order to determine if worker’s knowledge and skills are aligned with organisational strategy.

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i)    Explain the importance of training in general and in relation to occupational health and safety.
(ii)   Asses organisational training needs for health and safety education of employees.
(iii)  Develop a training plan that is aligned with organisational goals.
(iv)  Apply appropriate training methods for the achievement of maximum benefit to the trainees.
(v)   Evaluate training outcomes and propose solutions to problems identified.
