Background and Rationale
Disability management is the practice where organisations and employers, engage in preventing or reducing disability, promoting worker’s recovery and return to the workplace. This is most effective when the organisational strategy includes integrated disability management programmes that will provide access to injury prevention, disability accommodation and recovery support. This course will introduce Disability Management (DM) and will investigate the impact of DM programmes to the creation of a strong safety culture in the organisation. Students will examine to role of the health and safety professional and of other stakeholders such as leadership and top management, and their responsibilities towards DM. They will review relevant legislation and regulations as well as organisational policies relevant to DM. Furthermore, they will study the implementation of injury reporting and assessment procedures as well as functional assessments. Finally, they will examine DM programmes that involve modified work, rehabilitation and return to work.
