Module description
This module explores various aspects of the theory and practice of three important notions in educational settings: management, leadership and administration. Utilising case studies, it focuses on both the theoretical and practical dimensions of management, leadership and administration in educational organizations and institutions. Emphasis is placed on the theoretical constructs of these three important concepts and the critical use of them in developing the student’s scholarship and practice in the field and their application in the student’s own educational context. The student concludes the module with the development of a “Leadership Change and Innovation Plan” applicable to educators and leaders in the home country / region of the student.
Aim of the module
The module’s aim is to provide students with a critical understanding of how educational management, leadership and administration is impacted by multidisciplinary influences, the complexity of theory/practice relationships and their contextualization within institutions and the governing socio-economic and political environment.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module participants should be able to:
1. Critique the literature and the methodologies and products of research in the field of educational management leadership and administration;
2. Evaluate the influence of context on education management, leadership and administration
3. Apply approaches, skills, theories and techniques to educational management, leadership and administration in their own educational contexts;
4. Collaborate in educational management, leadership and administration projects and programmes
5. Lead through critical reflection and practical action
6. Devise a leadership, change and innovation plan in the field of education
