Programme description

Aims of the Programme

The aims of the programme are as follows:
1) To develop students’ appreciation of the effectiveness of Human Resources role and function within the organisational operations.
2) To prepare students to become ethically-informed future Human Resource Managers, able to adjust to the changing needs and trends of the modern workspace, its challenges and employee diversity.
3) To provide students with the skills and competencies they need to become marketable for a variety of HR careers in different types of organizations.
4) To enhance students’ understanding of the broad role of the Human Resource specialist and the significance of people management.
5) To provide students with fundamental understanding of economic and management principles. 
6) To facilitate continuous growth and improved performance, founded on a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
7) To provide the tools for effective talent hunting, employee selection and retention that reduces turnover and aligns with the organisation’s goals. 
8) To underline the importance of training techniques, employee development and job satisfaction.
9) To highlight the changing nature of business, its current challenges and the importance of understanding both the local and global business environment, in order to make the necessary adjustments to the local management model.
10) To motivate students to develop an efficient and effective Human Resource Management system, in order to maximise quality of work life, performance, productivity, and contribute to national development.
11) To align students’ acquired knowledge, skills and competence with the current and future needs of the population and of HR systems, taking into account labour market dynamics at national and local levels, so as to enable sustainable employment creation and economic growth.

Learning Outcomes 
At the end of the programme, the student will be expected to:

a) Analyse the role and importance of Human Resource management within different types of organisations.
b) Explain the foundations of Human Resource management through a critical and analytical situational perspective. 
c) Apply appropriate strategic plans for recruitment and employee development.
d) Apply theoretical knowledge by adapting HR practices accordingly based on the different workspace environments.
e) Explain employment legislations and participate effectively in collective negotiations and discussions.
f) Implement sustainable HR strategies and practices.
g) Apply innovation and technology in improving HR systems, policies and procedures.
h) Identify the challenges involved in managing HR services.
i) Utilise skills that are required in conflict-resolution and long-standing establishment of partnerships.
j) Debate different Human Resource concepts, contemporary issues and business trends with a creative and critical approach. 
k) Discuss the complex nature of international business and its impact on the management and growth of an organisation.
 

Entry Requirements

Admission Requirements

The general admission requirements for entry to Unicaf University in Zambia Bachelor degree programmes are as outlined below.  Students are advised to contact the Office of Admissions to find out more about the range of equivalent international academic qualifications accepted.

  • Regular admission to a Bachelor's degree programme requires a Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 GCE O-levels at credit or higher including English or international equivalent qualification.
  • Applicants with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma may be considered for entry.
  • Applicants with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a relevant subject area may be considered for entry to year 3 of a relevant Bachelor's degree, depending on the content of the curriculum previously taken.
  • English proficiency: Grade 6 (Credit) or better on the General Certificate of Education or international equivalent qualification or demonstrated by approved English Language Tests.
  • Copy of passport or national ID.

In addition to a strong academic record, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills and other relevant background information may be taken into account.
